TMD and I have a whirlwind trip planned for this week. We need to pop over to Oregon for a few days. We plan to pepper this trip with birding as much as possible.
Given that we are currently showing 179 species on our year list, and given that we could conceivably record another 25 species in Washington and Oregon on the way over and back, we might be able to break the 200 species mark before June is over.
Given that we average 17 new birds for the year in Montana from July to December, we could conceivably break the 220 species recorded in a calendar year. That would be our best effort yet.
I’m going to say this:
25 species in Oregon and Washington
17 species in Montana for the rest of the year
Therefore, 221 for the year.
Only time will tell, but we are hopeful.
