It turns out that our Sharp-shinned Hawk is a Cooper’s Hawk. Thanks to the birding community, we’ve been shown the diagnostic characteristics and come to the conclusions that is the proper species ID. Nevertheless, getting out in nature was nice!

We floated the Missouri today- 3 kayaks and canoe. Put in at Mid Canon and took out at Prewett Creek. There were White Pelicans, Osprey, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Kingfishers, Ouzel, Mergansers, Eastern Kingbirds, several species too skittish to identify and American Avocets.
