I finally had what I refer to as a dragonfly stop long enough for an image to be captured. I have tried – unsuccessuly – for a couple of years to get a good dragonfly image to no avail.
When this one stayed still and alowed me to zoom and focus, I was really pleased. When I got home and started looking it up – to give a proper ID – I was somewhat surprised to learn that this group is refered to as Meadowhawks. I think that’s a pretty cool name, too. Dragonfly or Meadowhawk – either one is pretty good branding!
This one appears to be a native species called a Band-winged Meadowhawk- Sympetrum semicinctum. Which is appropriate as it has lovely banded wings and I saw it in a meadow (albeit an almost fully dormant, dry meadow.) Still- kind of cool to see one up close.
