The heat of summer makes birding a bit troublesome. Seems as though they are all tired of singing their songs- they must all be busy with the work of raising the next generation. They all need to eat and rest and get ready to go where ever they go for the fall migration.
The birds that stay with us year-round, begin to perk up just a bit as the summer tourists pack up and head out. As a result, I’m beginning to hear and see Red-breasted Nuthatches a bit more. This one was on the NW flank of Mount Helena. Road To Mars trail.
We are sliding back into the locals only scene that will dominate the hills for a few months.
Let’s hope we have a few strays blown off course during the odd fall storm. It’s always nice to get a Jaeger, or an arctic subspecies of Great Horned owl.
