Grouse and Butterflies

Nice Dusky Grouse we found along the trail up above MacDonald Pass. I’m always pleased by how the Lab demonstrates that he is a birding dog- not a bird dog. The grouse flushed when we were pretty close and when I stopped, the Lab watched me pull the camera out, determined everything was under control and kept wandering down the path.

The grouse landed in a tree very close by and kept his eye on us for a bit while I took photos. All in all, it was a nice encounter. Thirty seconds later, the encounter with a Julia Orangetip butterfly was much, much less satisfying as I, again, came away with no good photos.

c’est la vie
