May “Numbers”

By finding this lovely flower, I have 56 flowering species in May, and 90 for the 2024 Wildflowering Season. Not a bad bit of wildflowering! 

I have put in 137 miles of hiking across the hills in the Helena Valley in May- not too shabby all things considered. So that puts me at 346 miles of hiking for the year well on my way to my goal 1,000 miles of hiking for the year. 

With regards to birding, in May my middle daughter and I hit 175 species of birds for the year. Considering most years end with us getting positive ID’s on about 200 species of birds, we are off to a very good start.

This flower is a Tufted Evening Primrose- Oenothera caespitosa
