Freezeout Lake, con’t

This trip to Freezeout was amazing. Inaddition to all the Snow Geese (just a reminder, there were litterly tens of thousands of them) we found this lovely, if grumpy looking Great Horned Owl.

This individual was unimpressed with my sudden appearance in ‘his field’. Obi and I stalked him carefully and slowly for about 30 mnutes. Eventually, we both went our separate ways- Obi and I headed back to the car, and the owl headed off to a nearby copse of trees.

I really enjoy finding owls in the wild. There is something more wild about finding owls than finding, say, a Curlew. I enjoy both experiences, but owls are so much less common. There are several species of owls I have not yet seen in the wild- I keep hoping to see a Great Grey.

Someday, perhaps!
