Six inches (15cm) of snow overnight and shorebirds are starting to show up. This Greater Yellowlegs was nice to see wading around in the 22° (-5c) temps with a bit of a wind blowing.
There are lots (like many 1,000’s) of gulls in the valley right now. I found one at the Reservoir that had a much darker mantle and a different bill marking than either the typical Ring-bill or California gulls. Possible a Lesser Black-backed hill but in the absence of a clean ID it was just a Gull sp. on my list for the day.
There was also one ‘Gull-zilla’ out there, but again, too far to make a clean ID. Such is birding!
Let’s see what tomorrow holds!
