Three weeks of physical therapy, and my leg is feeling a lot better. The amazing folks over at Gold Leaf Physical Therapy have been doing a right fine job of finding old muscles in my old body and waking them up. It’s been a long time since I had PT and I have to say, the team approach that these folks use is terrific.
I’ve been ultrasounded, dry-needled, deep massaged, monsterwalked, stationary biked, treadmilled, stair stepped, balance disked, therabanded, wall-crunched and a lots more. I’m still being a bit cautious when I’m ‘out there’ on a walkabout, but I’m gaining confidence that neither of the injuries – hamstring and medial meniscus – are going to get in my way of hitting the 6,000,000 steps and 1,000 hiking miles that I am shooting for this year. 🙏 🤞
But I am beginning to push the envelope a little bit. Today was the first day back on Mount Helena since Feb 9. It felt good to have some trail time. Today’s modest midday walk was 1.4 miles (2.25k) with about 250 feet (75m) of elevation gain. I had no pain (other than the aforementioned muscles that have been dormant for a good long while) during of immediately following three walk. Even seven hours later, no pain.
As of today I’m at 50 miles of hiking for 2024; only 950 more to make my goal.
The Labrador was in his bliss up there. He has missed the smells and subnivian sounds. He was very, very happy!
Game on!
