June is Underway

Nuttall’s Larkspur- Delphinium nuttallianum

Low key day, today. About 8 miles of walking, but only 4 of it was hiking. I found a Yucca in the valley that I want to keep an eye on- I’ve never seen one bloom. Probably sometime in late June or early July is my guess.

I also found the Larkspur shown above. At first I thought it was just an oddly colored Little Larkspur. But the little white ‘sails’ above tehe tongue indicate it is more likely a Nuttall’s Larkspur. I good with that.

I also found a Limestone Hawksbeard along a trail that walk almost daily. I walked past it, and dismissed it as an Agoseris. But, I went back because the leaves looked wrong for that to be the case. A couple of pictures. a little cross-referencing, and it’s new for me for the year.

I also saw and smelled a Lewis’ Mock Orange on a walk. I think that plant is my favorite smell on the hill.

No new birds- I’m trying to stay pretty close to home until I can get the RAV4 more road ready.
