Following a very nice sunrise, walk and a big breakfast, we did a couple of miles across the lower aspect of Mt. Helena. It was the first time being on the trails ‘up there’ in what feels like several months. Some of the trails were clear and dry, some of them had running water, coursing down the trail, and some of them are covered with snow and ice.
The phlox on the east and north facing lower slopes of Mt Helena is greening up and probably a week or less away from flowering. It’s going to be very, very nice to see color out in nature again. As much as I want nice dry paths, I hope the melt occurs slowly.
Time to start walking the 10 Mile park every morning to keep an eye on the stream flow and rise. With all the snow pack we have right now, the last thing we need is a long string too warm days or, worse, rain. We need the snowpack to release its water slowly. With any luck, our over night lows will stay in the 30’s for a while.
Anyway- it is starting to green up, if only just a bit.
