So, a crazy thing happened about two hours ago. I was driving down the street that I live on and four birds flew right in front of my car. They landed in the road and started running so I turned (not the direction that I was planning to go, but hey, these were birds!) to see what they were and parked in the middle of the street and watched four gray partridges, running around, looking a bit bewildered about being at an intersection in a small city.
I only see these birds occasionally in the valley, like 2 to 5 miles away. I’ve never seen them in the city or in any of the parklands within the city limits. Obviously, that’s not to say they’re not here from time to time, but that’s just been my experience. So, to have four fly across the hood of my car and through the headlight wash and land in the road and run around and allow me to follow them and take a picture with my phone through the windshield of the car is simply an experience I’ve never had. Gotta say, I enjoyed it!
So, Grey Partridge- Perdix perdix, it’s my 57th ID’ed species for the year. I know they are a non-native species and all, but, W00t!
