Stunning Views Today

Looking toward the continental divide

Today was quite a nice day. Aside from the flat tire, of course. I’m ending my day with a bit over 20,000 steps and about 9.5 miles of walking.

The Labrador and I did several small hikes around the valley. The McMaster Hills east of town are going to be very interesting to explore when the weather turns nice. Today, however, it was 19°F and there was a stiff breeze blowing. Couple that with the ice underneath the snow on the trail and it made the experience less than ideal, but the habitat is going to be terrific for finding flowers and birds.

Later in the afternoon, we wandered about in the Scratchgravel Hills for a bit. I tend to focus on the center or east side of the Scratchgravels, but today I went over to the Western arm. The view towards the continental divide was absolutely stunning.

I saw a Golden Eagle quite close, about 7 Pygmy Nuthatchs, several Rough-legged Hawks and a Merlin. I also came across a nice big native yucca- which I don’t find all that often.

Really, quite a nice day out and about.
