August Species Count- 5

Least Sandpiper foraging at the Reservoir

Summertime sees birding slip deep into the doldrums. I am seeing lots of birds- just not lots of new bird species for the year. The fall migration is starting- which could bring me a lot of new species, but I am not able to drop everything and go find the Whooper Swans south of Townsend, or the four potentially new shorebirds at the Reservoir at a moment’s notice. So, August added 5 to the year list which brings me to 197 for the year. I’ve been in the 190’s since June 27. Seems like getting to 200 will be laden with anticipation. I was unable to get any decent images of the Semipalmated Sandpiper, but the Solitary Sandpipers and Kildeer were all over- and the mosquitos were thick and hungry. I totally forgot to bring bug dope.
