Seeing as we had the time- we spent a bit of Jan 2 and 3 trying to improve our year list. We thought, perhaps, if we went up into the hills one more time, we might find Grey Crowned Rosy Finches. They had been being seen on a sporadic basis near a local ski area. So we went off for the second time in three days. A little walking in the sunshine and cold air is good for the spirit.
It worked. We drove the area scanning the typical haunts and then walked in the hills and trees for about 35 minutes and then did one last circuit of the area with camera and binoculars at the ready and we found them. It was a really nice find so early in the year and it added a life bird to my daughter’s list. Lousy photo opportunites, but useful for ‘proof’ nevertheless.
Success!
