The Labrador keeps things active- no doubt about that. A year or so ago I purchased an Apple Watch Series 6. I had been a decade+ long FitBit user, but the allure of tracking a variety of activities as well as having communications functionality (what with two kids away in college and another in High School) really seemed like a good fit for me.

So, imagine my disappointment when I found that the Watch did not make it particularly easy to arrange the data it captures. So, I scanned the web for other people who were similarly let down and found that I was really not alone. A little more digging and I found articles directing people to an app called Activity Stats by Indie Computing Labs, LLC. It has an App Store rating of 4.8 based on about 1,300 reviews. I downloaded it and it immediately impressed me with its clean, clear form and function. I was further delighted to find that it easily allows me to customize date ranges for data retrieval.

It is because of this lovely little app that I can see that I have taken a touch more than 5 million steps since the first of the year. I am approaching 2,500 miles of total walking, with nearly 1,500 of those miles being recorded by my Watch as “workouts”. One Thousand, one hundred and ninety-seven workouts to be precise. This bit required a little math on my part- the app does not provide this. I have spent roughly 15% of my waking hours doing walking workouts. It’s no wonder that I have 8,000 pictures of nature on my phone and three times that figure in memory cards. It also explains the speed with which I wear my boots out- and my socks.

Back to the Lab. If I have 2,500 miles- he has at least 50% more. As a gear geek, I am tempted to get him a PetBit. But I suspect he would lose it the first time he went swimming in a river or lake. So, I’ll leave him be. Some things are just not meant to be measured.
