Time Passages

Al Stewart got it right-
“Well I’m not the kind to live in the past
The years run too short and the days too fast”

So much has happened this year. The days have slipped past very quickly and the year is getting away as well. I find myself sitting in front of the computer in early October. The windows are all open and gentle fall breeze is cooling the house off. We went over 80 degrees today. FEMA sent several warnings to my phone about Fire Danger – Low Humidity – High Winds.  Crazy. Last year at this time we snow on the ground and the temps were in the 40’s.

October. Tenth month of the year (name means eight, you know- that’s a good story, but not right now). So, we’ve been living in a pandemic almost all year. Here in Montana, the daily impact has been so much less than in other places. Mask up and go about your business. Keep a little distance. Not too difficult in a valley about 1/4 the size of Rhode Island with less than 30,000 people.

The Smoke is getting pretty thick- obscuring the sun from time-to-time. Still doing 5 walks every day with the Labrador. Still grocery shopping. Still doing house projects- therefore Ace Hardware, Lowes, Power Townsend. But not a lot else. I walk with friends when I am able, but honestly, not may people want to walk with me at 6am in the dark.

Red Skies over Montana- 2020 just keeps giving.

Not much time on the water this year-I hope that changes next summer. I sold my canoe and got a kayak- now each of us has a kayak and we don’t have to fight about who will help me with the scow of a canoe.
