So Much Is Going On

I have been remiss. It has been months since I’ve posted. It is Tuesday, October 23, 2018 and we are at roughly 183 bird species for the year. However, it has also been a year of tremendous tumult and change. As a result very little has been recorded on this site. I hope to change that going forward.

So here, for the record, is what I have seen today: Northern harrier, northern flicker, magpie, Raven, Crow, Pigeon, Townsend’s Solitaire, Mountain and Black capped Chickadee, Merlin, Common Merganser, American Robin, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and Dark-eyed Junco. It was a good day! Watching the Northern Harrier as it cruised the greater 10 mile park area was a real treat. I snapped four pictures, maybe five. None of them did the real life experience any justice. Harriers are graceful and aerobatic, This one seemed to be very patient.

They are a beautiful species to watch as the hoped. Raptors, it dawned on me as I watched the Harrier hunting, have so many different styles of hunting. It really is fascinating to be more present in nature and more mindful of the species that are around. Slowing down a little bit and paying attention to what’s happening pays significant dividends.
