Today we took a quick road trip. We left the house before 7am. Three of us plus the Labrador went to both Freezeout and Benton Lakes. What a day! Nearly 70 species, including 6 new species for the year. Black Terns, Common Terns, Long-billed Dowitcher, Marbled Godwit, American Bittern, and Pied-Billed Grebe. Then add all the other shorebirds, ducks, falcons, hawks, Ibis, Killdeer, Avocets, and others and it all adds up to an amazing day. We now sit at 175 species for the year. Fairfield, Montana is becoming pretty familiar!
